You don't say what version of CWW you have, but I bet it is V1. V1 does not
support patch caching, so you have use the GUS Patch Manager to load patches
manually before playing a work in CWW. V2 supports caching, albeit with some
bugs (like, for example, if you specify a patch on Channel 10, it tries to tell
you that you are out of memory on the GUS).
Oh, yes...remember that you need to specify explicitly which patch you want for
each channel (except drums on Ch10).
I hope this helps!

Well, the SPX-900 and maximizers are 2 totally different things. The SPX is
an effects processor with reverb, echo, flanging, etc. The maximizers just
really add a "spatial" quality to the sound. The SPX is definately more
versatile in the long run. The first thing I would recommend, however, would
be a good 1/3-octave EQ. The most important thing when mixing for different
environments is to take in account the quality of the sound. For example, a
mix for a club system should have a decent bass boost, especially if it's
techno or dance or something. Also, regarding the SPX, you really don't want
the same effects over your whole program. For example, you don't want the
same reverb that you have on your snare on the bass. And, if you want to add
flanging to a cymbal, you don't want it over everything else. So, keep in
mind, that the greatest use for the SPX would be to sample your own sounds.
You would want to add the effects when you make the sample.
Well, just a few thoughts. I hope I sorta answered your questions. Later...

Subject: MOD2PAT v0.8
Hi folks!
My MOD2PAT are now available in v0.8 on epas
(/pub/pc/ultrasound/submit/mod2pat.v08.zip)
Windows haters should stick with v0.7 'cause
v0.8 is now a windows hosted program.
The user interface is really improved and if
you've got a midi in device you can play the
samples on a keyboard so you can decide wich
samples you want.
As usual, let me know if you have any problems
especially with the new 'midi in patch play'
feature wich will probably show up in the next
version of my :Midi Patch Browser: (v0.8) as
a disk-browser that'll let you play any .PAT
file on the disk. If it works well for everyone
i.e., it's not as if Gravis has documented how
to do it very well...

Subject: Need to Reinstall GUS software
Well,
I have made a complete mess of my ULTRASND directory and now I wish to
reinstall everything fresh. Anyone know where I can find the LATEST
and COMPLETE install. I was up to patch gus0041.zip and so I need to know
where I would find a complete install set and then which patches I need to
do above and beyond that to get me totally up to date.
Among other things, I want to clean out the 17 MB of pat files which are in
my MIDI directory.
Also, the gus0041.zip patch came with a file called instgrps.exe and I have
absolutely NO idea what it does or what its for. Anyone know?
Thanks much in advance

Lee Teck Chee,
Regarding your patch description form, a couple of suggestions:
The INSTRUMENT name of the patch should be the second item, under the file
name. Next should be the GM PATCH field.
I suggest you include a field for a suggested MIDI patch number or drum key
number. I would put this field third.
Put the date down lower, its not that vital.
Hope this is considered.

I think it should be sufficient to just enter the filename of the last
revision in this field, plus the filename of the original release. As David
has pointed out to me, this form should be kept short and simple. Its
purpose is to make it easier for users to see at a glance what the patch is
for. I'm sure that if you made a patch, you wouldn't want to be burdened
with typing loads of description text. ;)

Subject: patch headers & patch banks
I'm glad to see the ongoing discussion of patch description standardization,
which will help in patch administration.
I addition to this, I suggest that distributors of patch sets (e.g. drumkits)
distribute a dummy bankfile (bankfile.ini) that user's can use to rapidly
incorporate the patches into their ultrasnd.ini, where the bankfile.ini
would be "close" to the GM patch assignment, if possible (e.g. a drumkit
which has fewer drums than the bank 0 standard, but different names, would
maintain the GM mapping but replace bank 0 names with its own, deleting
unused bank 0 entries). Thus a user would only need assign the bank a
user-defined number, update the pathname, incorporate the text into
ultrasnd.ini, and then be able to use the bank.
If a "registry" of banks is maintained (perhaps in the faq), this could
enable rapid interchange of midifiles incorporating bank switching with
minimal fuss. I recall some discussion of this, but don't recall any
resolution.
